The pipes inside your walls decide whether your home stays dry for thirty years or leaks in five. Nobody photographs their plumbing — but ask anyone who has broken open a six-month-old wall to fix a joint, and they will tell you the most important material in a home is the one you never see.
The Indian CPVC market at a glance
CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) has rapidly replaced metal and plain PVC for hot-and-cold water plumbing in Indian homes. Unlike the fragmented general-PVC segment, CPVC is a largely organised market led by a handful of established brands — good news for buyers, because certified products, printed markings and matching fitting systems are the norm rather than the exception.
Industry estimates place Ashirvad as the CPVC market leader, with Astral, Supreme, Prince and Finolex the other major national players. Treat any specific market-share percentage you read online as indicative — the figures vary by report and year.

Ashirvad Pipes — the market leader
Why plumbers ask for it: The name most plumbers in North India reach for first. Ashirvad’s current push is taking its premium lead-free range deeper into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities — hot-and-cold plumbing with ISI certification, international compliance, and quick-install fittings that reduce joint failures, which are the single biggest cause of leaks.
Popular ranges
- CPVC hot and cold water systems
- UPVC plumbing and SWR drainage
- Lead-free fittings for drinking water lines
Best for: Homeowners who want the brand their plumber already knows how to fit properly.

Astral — brought CPVC mainstream in India
Why it stays top-two: Astral brought CPVC technology mainstream in India and remains a top-two name. Its lead-free, high-pressure ranges now export to more than 25 countries, and its drainage systems are gaining ground in commercial kitchens and hospitals — spaces where a failure is not an option.
Popular ranges
- CPVC Pro hot and cold systems
- Lead-free high-pressure pipes
- Silent drainage for commercial buildings
Best for: Projects where the plumbing has to be certified and documented, not just installed.

Supreme — fire-retardant CPVC for high-rises
Why high-rises specify it: Supreme dominates India’s overall plastic piping industry and is pushing a fire-retardant CPVC line for high-rises and commercial buildings — low smoke emission, thermal insulation and anti-scaling performance built to fire-safety standards. Building above four floors? Worth asking about.
Popular ranges
- Fire-retardant CPVC for high-rise risers
- Full UPVC and SWR systems
- Agricultural and borewell pipes
Best for: High-rise and commercial projects with fire-safety compliance to satisfy.

Prince — licensed technology, digital tools
Why the trade likes it: Prince’s flagship CPVC range is built on licensed international compound technology, and its newest move is digital: an app for retailers, contractors and plumbers with pipe calculators, technical datasheets and compatibility matching. A sign of where the trade is heading.
Popular ranges
- CPVC plumbing systems
- UPVC pressure and column pipes
- SWR drainage and fittings
Best for: Contractors who size and quantify pipework properly before buying.

Finolex — built for harsh outdoor exposure
Why it survives the sun: Finolex is pushing CPVC deep into semi-urban and rural India, for homes and agriculture alike. Its non-toxic, UV-resistant ranges are built for harsh outdoor exposure — exactly where plain PVC turns brittle and fails after a couple of Rajasthan summers.
Popular ranges
- UV-resistant CPVC and UPVC
- Agricultural and irrigation pipes
- SWR drainage systems
Best for: Exposed terrace runs, borewell lines and anything living in direct sun.
Our buying advice: the three non-negotiables
- ISI mark printed on the pipe body itself — moulded or printed into the pipe, not a sticker on the bundle. No printed mark, no purchase.
- Matching branded fittings at every joint. Mixing Brand A pipe with Brand B or local fittings is the number one cause of leaks. Joints fail, pipes rarely do.
- Lead-free certification on drinking water lines. Any pipe carrying water your family drinks or cooks with should be certified lead-free — ask for it by name.
One more honest tip: do not over-buy on pressure class. Your plumber or dealer can match the right class to your building height and pump setup — paying for commercial-grade pipe in a single-storey home is money far better spent on quality fittings.
How to spot a joint that will leak
Most plumbing failures are workmanship, not material — dry joints, the wrong solvent cement, or a fitting forced onto a pipe that was not deburred. Check while the wall is still open, when fixing it costs nothing: every joint should show a thin even bead of cement all round, pipes should be cut square and deburred, and nothing should be under sideways stress. If a plumber will not let you look, that tells you something.

Common questions
Which CPVC pipe brand is best in India?
Ashirvad, Astral, Supreme, Prince and Finolex are the established names. Ashirvad and Astral lead on plumbing systems and fittings range, Supreme and Finolex on nationwide availability, and Prince on value. For hot water lines choose CPVC over UPVC regardless of brand.
What is the difference between CPVC and UPVC pipe?
CPVC is chlorinated PVC and handles hot water up to about 93°C, so it is used for hot and cold supply lines. UPVC is unplasticised PVC, rated for cold water only, and is used for cold supply and drainage. Using UPVC on a hot line will fail.
How long do CPVC pipes last?
Correctly installed CPVC plumbing is rated for around 50 years. The common cause of early failure is poor jointing rather than the pipe itself, so the fitting quality and the plumber matter as much as the brand.
